One thing that I try to do is not hide the fact that I'm on my period. Not that I constantly tell people that in a casual conversation ("the weather today is nice! also I'm leaking goo out of my vagina") but I try not to do the whole hide-the-tampon-in-my-sleeve thing.
When I worked at the women's stadium it wasn't too bad, but now I work in an office that mostly has older gen x/early boomer aged men. I've found myself trying to hide my period evidence a lot more. Obviously I don't want to be splattering blood all over the single shared (gender neutral) bathroom, but I will also have found myself wanting to bury the wrappers deeper into the trashcan so every hint of menstration is hidden.
That's insane, right? Men will dribble all over the floor and toilet seat, and i'm over here hiding the equivalent of a band-aide wrapper. Somehow it feels too radical to show any evidence of menstration even though I know it really isnt. I think the lack of young "women" (I'm not out to my co-workers as nb) makes it feel more intense. There's a very small handfull of "women" in the office so the list of suspects is smaller. It feels a bit too intimate to let the people in my office even think about the fact that I could possibly be on my period.
